PETALING JAYA: Bosch Automotive Aftermarket is holding a photography competition in conjunction with the Merdeka month celebration.
To join the contest running from Aug 15-31, participants need to shoot a creative image of their car with the Jalur Gemilang and upload the image to Instagram with the hashtag #BoschMERDEKAR.
They should also tag and follow @boschautopartsmy on Instagram, and also make the account public.
It will be a bonus for the participants if Bosch auto parts are featured in the image.
Bosch Automotive Aftermarket said a survey in 2020 indicated that more than 75% of Malaysians planned to travel domestically once the movement control order (MCO) was lifted.
"Since movement restrictions were relaxed in April, families have been traveling to reunite and celebrate the festivities and many are looking forward to exploring Malaysia and enjoying the rich experiences and local food, and Merdeka offers them a chance to do that," it said.
Bosch Automotive Aftermarket also suggested that freedom outdoors can be enjoyed at Tugu Negara, watching the Kuala Lumpur skyline light up with fireworks or witnessing the Merdeka Day Parade at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 31.
Other interesting venues to visit during the celebrations include Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur; Changkat Semantan, Kuala Lumpur; Bukit Permai, Cheras and Genting Highlands, Pahang.
The company also said studies showed that more than 50% of Malaysian drivers lack knowledge on basic car maintenance.
As a breakdown could spoil holiday plans, Bosch Automotive Aftermarket suggested that drivers do occasional inspections on:
> Steering – make sure the steering system (wheel) is working smoothly while maneuvering
> Brakes – take note of any unusual sound when braking
> Fluid levels – brake fluid, engine oil, coolant fluid and wiper tank
> Tyres – check tyre tread depth by placing a 20-sen coin in the tread and if you can read the date on the coin clearly, it’s time to change your tyres. Remember to also ensure tyre pressure is at the required level
> Battery – check on the health of the battery and charge it with the Bosch C7 battery charger if required
> Wipers – clean and functional wiper contributes to a clearer visibility. Take time to change them if they are worn out
> Lights – visual check on all the lights to make sure they are functional
> Car suspension – send your car over to a reliable workshop if you hear any unusual noise or sounds when going through bumps and potholes
>Seatbelts – check for any visual damage on the belt as well at the buckle
> Baby car seat – make sure the car seat is properly installed and no visual damage or cracks on it
