WCE expects 150,000 vehicles on highway daily during 'Balik Kampung' rush
By CARSIFU | 05 April 2024KLANG: West Coast Expressway Sdn Bhd (WCE) expects the daily average volume of vehicles on the highway to increase to 150,000 units per day as the "Balik Kampung" rush begins tomorrow.
Urging drivers to drivers to give priority to safety and increase awareness on the move, the company also said it had also implemented measures to ensure smooth traffic flow.
These includes a halt on construction and maintenance work involving highway lane closures until April 17, except for emergency works.
Provision for equipment such as tow trucks at several strategic locations to assist in cases of traffic incidents, additional support staff and Emergency Response Teams (ERT), as well as WCE patrol officers along the highway are prepared to provide emergency assistance in case of any eventualities.
WCE has lay-by areas with facilities such as restrooms, prayer rooms and reload self-service kiosks available at every toll plaza.
In addition to those, motorcycle shelters are also provided along the highway for the convenience and safety of motorcycle users, especially when it rains.
However, the public is reminded that presently, petrol stations are in the process of being
constructed along the WCE Highway and users are advised to refuel adequately before entering the highway or at the nearby petrol stations along WCE exits.
West Coast Expressway CEO Lyndon Alfred Felix advised drivers to prioritise the safety of their loved ones and themselves by driving responsibly.
"We can all contribute to making the highway safer for everyone. WCE wishes everyone a Happy Aidilfitri celebration and urges caution while driving on the highway, " he said.
WCE is committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all road users, drivers are also advised to:
> Ensure that their vehicles are in good working condition via maintenance checks,
> Observe the speed limits and maintain a safe distance between vehicles,
> Ensure drivers and all passengers buckle up and children are securely in their safety seats,
> Drive safely and remain vigilant for any potential hazards, including the possibility
of animals unexpectedly crossing the road,
> Have sufficient rest to avoid fatigue during the long drive. Have a driving break every two hours,
> Avoid using mobile phones while driving,
> Practice patience and road courtesy,
