Watch where you put traffic cones, police warn contractors
By THE STAR | 09 November 2021JOHOR BARU: Contractors should be careful when putting up traffic cones, says state police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
He said that police in Johor have been receiving complaints from the public about the inappropriate placement of the cones, adding that they can endanger road users.
"Recently, a video went viral on social media, where a motorcyclist almost got into an accident after ramming into a cone on the road. He almost got hit by a lorry because of the incident,” said Comm Ayob Khan.
Comm Ayob said the incident in the video took place at about 9pm on Nov 5 at Jalan Kempas Utama in Seelong, Kulai.
He added that the 28-year-old man involved in the incident filed a police report on Nov 6.
"I would like to remind all contractors involved in roadworks to make sure that the cones they are using are filled with either water or sand to avoid them from moving around,” he said.
Comm Ayob said at a press conference during a special integrated operation between the police and the Environment Department today that these contractors should inform the relevant district police chief of any roadworks that involve traffic cones.
“We will take action if they fail to do so."
