WATCH: Mazda3 keyfob teardown and rebuild
By CARSIFU | 26 May 2021PETALING JAYA: This geeky but intriguing YouTube video about redesigning a key fob streamed into our consciousness today. And we felt it's interesting enough to highlight it to a wider audience.
As much as Mazda is known for its engine technology prowess (SkyActiv-X in point) and design chops, the automaker had overlooked how to make an ergonomic keyfob, according to the creator of the YouTube channel Hack 'n' Tink.
The channel owner took issue with the large size of the keyfob and the side controls for the 2019 Mazda3. Most keyfobs in the market have buttons on the front and are more ergonomic.
In the video, the channel owner showed how he cut and shrank the default keyfob to 19% of the default size.
The DIY method is not for everyone as it's quite technical in nature. It requires knowing your way around electronic circuit boards and soldering.
The video was also Hack 'n' Tink's first to kick off the channel, which went live this month.
