WOLFSBURG: Volkswagen has unveiled the new Tayron, a large SUV offering five or seven seats, positioned between the premium Touareg and the mid-range Tiguan.
The Tayron boasts a distinctive SUV design with a strong emphasis on comfort, space, and high-quality materials.
It offers ample luggage capacity of up to 885 litres for the five-seater version, making it suitable for long road trips.
Seven different drive systems, including two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), will be available, providing electric ranges over 100km and total ranges up to 850km. The Tayron also has a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes, adding versatility for those needing a capable towing vehicle.
The Tayron measures 4.8 metres in length, featuring a sleek, modern design highlighted by LED headlights, a full-length LED rear crossbar, and an illuminated Volkswagen logo at both ends.
The interior combines premium materials such as ArtVelours Eco microfibre and open-pore wood, depending on the variant, and illuminated decorative trim, creating a refined and comfortable cabin.
Volkswagen has packed the Tayron with an array of standard features, especially in the entry-level Life variant.
This base model comes equipped with nine airbags, a three-zone automatic air conditioner, a 10-colour ambient lighting system, a multifunction driving experience control, a large 32-cm infotainment display with navigation and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instruments, LED headlights with automatic main beam control, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Other standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane assist, emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, Park Assist Plus, and a rearview camera.
Higher-spec packages such as the Elegance and R-Line offer even more advanced features, including the adaptive chassis control DCC Pro, IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights, Travel Assist for assisted driving, and the IDA voice assistant integrated with ChatGPT.
Optional extras include a panoramic sunroof, a premium Harman-Kardon sound system, leather upholstery with massage and ventilation functions, and an electrically activated child safety lock for the rear seats.
At launch, the Tayron will be offered with four different drive systems, all paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG). The entry-level engine is a mild hybrid (eTSI) with a 110 kW (150 PS) output, designed for fuel efficiency with 48 V technology.
Two plug-in hybrid variants (eHybrid) will be available, offering 150 kW (204 PS) and 200 kW (272 PS) of combined power. Both PHEVs come with a 19.7 kWh battery, allowing over 100 km of pure electric range and fast-charging capabilities.
Charging options include up to 11 kW for AC charging and 50 kW for DC quick charging.
In addition to the hybrids, the Tayron will also feature two turbocharged petrol engines (TSI) and two turbocharged diesel engines (TDI).
The most powerful TDI engine delivers 142 kW (193 PS) and comes with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. This model is especially suited for towing, capable of handling up to 2,500 kg on a 12% gradient, and includes a Trailer Assist system to make maneuvering with large trailers easier.
Pre-sales for the Tayron open today, with the entry-level eTSI model priced from 45,475 euros (RM214,000).
The two plug-in hybrid versions and the most powerful TDI model will also be available at launch.
