RESTON (Virginia, USA): Volkswagen of America has unveiled the updated 2025 models for its popular Golf GTI and Golf R, focusing on enhanced performance, technology, and design.

The refreshed GTI lineup will include three trims: S, SE, and Autobahn. Meanwhile, the Golf R range expands with the introduction of a new Black Edition.

The 2025 Golf GTI receives several exterior upgrades, including redesigned headlights, an illuminated logo, and a standard front lightbar. The vehicle is now available in two new paint colours: Alpine Silver Metallic and Slate Blue Metallic, complemented by redesigned 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

Inside, both the GTI and Golf R models feature a revamped interior highlighted by a freestanding 12.9-inch touchscreen with the latest Volkswagen operating system, also seen in models like the ID. Buzz. This update promises faster software performance and an intuitive interface. Physical buttons have replaced the previous haptic controls on the steering wheel for better usability.

Under the hood, the Golf GTI continues with its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine, delivering 241hp. The model now exclusively uses a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Standard features include navigation, Dynamic Road Sign Display, and wireless App-Connect. The IQ.DRIVE driver assistance suite remains standard across all trims, offering semi-automated driving, collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping systems.

The 2025 Golf R sees a power boost, now producing 328hp, making it the most powerful Golf ever. It also retains the 7-speed DSG transmission. Exterior updates align with those on the GTI, with new headlights, an illuminated logo, and a standard lightbar. The newly added Golf R Black Edition features blacked-out accents, carbon-fibre interior decor, and exclusive wheels.

Additionally, the Euro Style Package offers performance-focused enhancements like fabric seats, a sunroof delete, and an Akrapovic titanium exhaust for a sportier sound. Lightweight 19-inch forged alloy wheels improve handling.

Volkswagen has yet to announce pricing and availability details for the 2025 models, which are expected closer to their market release.
