VW ID.3 gets extensive upgrades
By CARSIFU | 06 May 2024WOLFSBURG: Volkswagen has introduced an extensive upgrade to the ID.3, enhancing its electric compact class with new features and technologies.
The ID.3 Pro S model now includes a next-generation software and infotainment system, an improved drivetrain, and an augmented reality head-up display.
Pre-sales for the ID.3 Pro S, equipped with a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery, have started, with additional variants set to be available soon.
The upgraded ID.3 Pro S boasts a motor output increase to 170 kW, improving acceleration from 0 to 100kph in 7.1 seconds and offering a combined WLTP range of up to 559km.
The model introduces a function-on-demand feature, allowing customers to upgrade the motor's power output post-purchase.
Charging efficiency is enhanced through an innovative charging and thermal management function, which preconditions the battery for optimal performance at DC charging stations, potentially reducing charging times, especially in colder conditions.
Volkswagen has also updated the vehicle's infotainment system, featuring a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen and a new menu structure.
The system includes the IDA voice assistant, capable of natural language processing and integrating artificial intelligence through ChatGPT.
The infotainment's usability is further improved by redesigned touch sliders for climate and volume control, and a new steering column switch for driving mode selection.
Standard safety features in the ID.3 Pro S include Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, and the Car2X traffic hazard alert function, which provides early warnings about road conditions ahead.
The model also comes with enhanced systems like the Travel Assist with swarm data, Park Assist Plus with a remote parking function, and an exit warning system to prevent door opening when a vehicle approaches from behind.
The ID.3 Pro S now offers a new Wellness App designed to enhance well-being during drives, using features like background lighting, sound, and air conditioning.
It includes customizable wellness modes such as Fresh Up, Calm Down, and Power Break.
The 5-seat vehicle can be equipped with an optional 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system, providing various sound settings and a customisable equalizer.
