PETALING JAYA: Volvo's smallest and quickest car is finally launched in Malaysia.
Three variants of the all-electric EX30 SUV will be offered in Malaysia – two single-motor extended-range Plus and Ultra versions and the dual-motor Ultra Twin Performance.
The range-topping Ultra Twin boasts 428 PS/422hp of power and 543Nm of torque launching it from standstill to 100kph in only 3.6 seconds.
On the other hand, both the Plus and Ultra variants with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle calls on 272 PS/268hp and 343Nm of power and torque respectively for a century sprint of 5.3 seconds. All three have a top speed capped at 180kph.
The trio come with the same 69kWh Li-ion (NMC) battery pack that provides up to 476km of range for the single motor variants or 450km for the Ultra Twin Performance.
The EX30 is Volvo Car Malaysia’s latest fully electric vehicle to be assembled locally and is priced from RM188,888 (on-the-road without insurance) for the Plus, RM208,888 for the Ultra and RM228,888 for the Ultra Twin Performance.
Sabah and Sarawak customers get the three variants at RM188,648, RM208,648 and RM228,648 respectively.
Volvo Car Malaysia said the initial batch of EX30 would be fully imported, with local assembly to start in 2025.
The EX30 is capable of 175kW DC fast charging and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 28 minutes. It supports AC charging of up to 11kW with charging from 0-100% in eight hours.
Standard equipment in the EX30 includes LED headlights, 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, Pilot Assist, Harman Kardon Premium Sound, power tailgate, frameless auto-dimming side and rear-view mirrors, ambient interior themes and the full suite of Volvo’s advanced driver assistance systems.
The Ultra variants add Park Pilot Assist, 360° camera, powered front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Customers have the option of Cloud Blue, Vapour Grey, Crystal White, and Onyx Black exteriors, with an eye-catching Moss Yellow colourway – inspired by lichen growing along the Swedish west coast – exclusively available for the Ultra variants for a limited run in Malaysia.
As with every fully electric model from Volvo, the EX30 comes with five-year complimentary Volvo Service Plan, digital services, 24-hour roadside assistance, and unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty.
On top of a 5-year vehicle warranty and an eight-year warranty on the high-voltage battery pack, a 5-year complimentary Google and data connectivity is standard. A subscription fee is imposed after the fifth year if the owner wants to continue the Google and data connectivity services.
The EX30 comes equipped with Volvo’s full Safe Space Technology suite and advanced driver assistance systems shared with Volvo’s top-of-the-line cars – enabled by radars, ultrasonic sensors and cameras located around the car.
In fact, the EX30 adds even more safety features, including:
> An innovative door opening alert that detects bikes or other road users from behind and warns occupants with visual and audio alarms when attempting to open the door.
> Upgraded Pilot Assist that also adjusts the optimum distance from large vehicles on the highway.
> Automatic braking for front cross traffic, intersection turns, and low speed reversing.
> Automatic steering avoidance for vulnerable road users such as bikers travelling next to the lane and in the same direction.
The EX30 is also the first to include a new generation of Volvo’s Park Pilot Assist feature that can handle parallel, curved, perpendicular and diagonal fishbone parking spaces. Park Pilot Assist can automatically identify available parking spaces and take over the accelerator, brakes and steering to manoeuvre the car.
The EX30 blends chic Scandinavian minimalism with uncompromising safety, and its city-focused design is intended for a new generation of Volvo owners who live or commute in the city, value style and sustainability, and whose active lifestyle demands practical and effortless driving for multiple destinations in the same day.
The EX30’s urban-friendly size makes navigating busy city streets and tight parking spaces a breeze, while a low hood, extra-wide headlights and fenders, large wheels, and 171 mm of ground clearance adds to a confident look.
The EX30 boasts a clean, minimalist cabin enhanced with five interior ambient light themes inspired by Swedish nature for every mood, featuring calming, shifting shades projected on the interior panels.
For extra immersion, owners can pair each lighting theme with an ambient soundscape.
The EX30 is also Volvo’s first car to introduce Harman Kardon Premium Sound within a single soundbar unit embedded in the dashboard.
Inspired by home audio design, the soundbar frees up valuable space in the front doors while reducing weight and material resources without compromising high-fidelity, driver-focused audio.
The EX30 maximises every interior space, with smarter storage solutions such as:
