2024 Volvo C40 Recharge updated with longer range and faster DC charging
By CARSIFU | 28 February 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia's C40 Recharge electric vehicle (EV) has been updated for model year 2024 with up to 550km in driving range, faster DC charging and pixel headlight technology.
The twin motor, all-wheel-drive C40 EV (soon to be renamed EC40) now gets a more powerful second-generation permanent magnet rear electric motor that was developed in-house.
This replaces the model's previous set-up of two 150kW e-motors with a higher output of 183kW at the rear axle and a new 117kW asynchronous electric motor on the front axle.
This new configuration with a maximum power output of 300kW emphasises power delivery at the rear for a more engaging driving experience.
The updated model also boasts an upgraded 82kWh battery pack from 78kWh previously that accommodates a higher maximum input of 200kW for DC charging to enable a 10% to 80% charge in 27 minutes.
Paired with the new twin-motor configuration and overall efficiency improvements in battery cooling, the upgraded battery pack gives the new C40 EV a vastly improved range of 550km or 100km more than the previous version.
Also new are the pixel headlights that utilise sensors to control forward lighting, capable of adjusting brightness for specific areas to ensure drivers’ visibility without blinding oncoming traffic, and restyled 19-inch alloy wheels that not only boost the overall look but also helps to reduce drag through an aerodynamic design.
A new exterior colour option of Vapour Grey has also been added on to the existing Onyx Black, Crystal White, Fjord Blue, and Sage Green colourways.
Owners will also get a 5-year complimentary Digital Services for access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store and Volvo Cars app remote functions.
Best of all, the upgraded C40 EV is priced similarly to the previous variant at RM288,888, with flexible financing and lower interest rates with Volvo Car Financial Services.
Bookings for all Volvo fully electric cars can be placed directly online at www.volvocars.com/my/cars/c40-electric.
Additionally, from now until March 31, Volvo Car Malaysia will offer an instant rebate of RM10,000 for online orders of the C40 EV.
Volvo Cars chief operating officer and deputy chief executive Javier Varela said the updates were another big step in the company's work towards becoming a fully electric car maker by 2030.
"Range and charging times are new key factors for more and more of our customers, and these improvements make our fully electric models even more attractive than they already were," Varela said.
