KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) today launched the exclusive Golf GTI Edition 50 at a recommended retail price (RRP) of RM267,990.
The price is inclusive of Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which provides owners with five years maintenance, five years unlimited mileage warranty and five years roadside assistance.
The GTI Edition 50 is offered as part of the Golf’s 50 years anniversary celebrations and is decked with a suite of accessories that includes an Oettinger body kit, new rims, black side mirror caps, exclusive Edition 50 emblems and sporty side decorative films inspired by the signature GTI honeycomb.
Finishing touches to the GTI Edition 50’s exterior are "Edition 50" VW Tint, and “50” emblems on both B-pillars that characterises this special edition model.
The Oettinger body kit consists of black front spoiler, black roof spoiler and diffuser that enhance its style and performance and adds a bold touch to the exterior styling of the GTI Edition 50.
Wheels are fitted with 18-inch "Pretoria" light alloys in high-gloss black finish, GTI Dynamic wheel hub caps, and VW Design aluminium valve caps.
The interior of the GTI Edition 50 showcases elements that differentiate it from the standard GTI.
Embellishments include a "50" emblem at the centre spoke of the GTI’s multi-function sport steering wheel, "Edition 50" aluminium side scuff plates as well as "Edition 50"
front carpet mats.
Available exclusive colours are Oryx White and Moonstone Grey.
VPCM managing director Denyu Bostandzhiev said the special edition GTI represented a milestone for Volkswagen.
"The GTI is already such an exceptional model, and the Edition 50’s upgrades certainly adds a unique touch that makes it a collectible item. We believe that the Edition 50 will appeal to those in the GTI’s already passionate fanbase looking for that something extra special," he said.
Like the standard GTI, the Edition 50 is exhilarating to drive and is powered by a 2.0TSI turbocharged engine delivering 245PS and 370Nm of torque coupled to a seven-speed wet clutch DSG.
Other features worth highlighting are the 10-speaker, 480-watt Harman Kardon premium sound system paired with the 10-inch Discover Media infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Safety is further enhanced by Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE technology and advanced driver assistance systems such as Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist and Head-up Display.
The GTI has stood for sporty driving pleasure since it was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1975.
Almost five decades and eight generations later, the GTI name continues to retain its position as one of the most loved hatchbacks around the world.
The GTI Edition 50 will be on display during the upcoming Golf Fan Fest at Sepang International Circuit's North Paddock on Aug 24.
The car will also be available for viewing at Volkswagen dealerships from Aug 17.
