Volkswagen announces fastest-ever Golf


BERLIN: VW is launching the most powerful Golf ever to mark an anniversary year of its sports variant. The limited edition model is called Golf R 333 and offers 333hp from a turbocharged two-litre engine.

The bright yellow, beefed-up R version is the latest in a long line of special Golfs and the teasered R 333 is likely to only be available in Germany.

The standard R comes in less strident colours and 320 horses. The enormous power catapults the hatch from 0 to 100kph in just 4.6 seconds.

The special model comes with a tuned Akrapovic exhaust system and is finished in bright yellow metallic paint, with black alloy wheels and perforated brake discs.

The car comes with air-conditioned sports leather seats as well as carbon and numerous special edition logo applications to quicken the heartbeat of fans. A Performance Package that includes two additional driving profiles called "Special" and "Drift".

As the name suggests, the special model is also limited to 333 units and will be formally unveiled at the end of May. The price is not yet known, but it's expected that the R 333 will also be the most expensive Golf ever.
