PETALING JAYA: The Toyota Veloz was officially unveiled this evening in an online launch.
Much of the details about the 7-seat MPV are already known.
It's the more premium sibling to the new Perodua Alza. Both models are based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform and are built together at Perodua's plant in Rawang.
Targeted for Malaysians with active lifestyles, the vehicle carries the tagline “Happiness Inside Out” and is said to offer the best of both worlds - the confident image of a premium crossover and the family comfort of a larger interior space MPV.
Among the items the Veloz gets that the Alza doesn't are LED daytime running lights; automatic air-conditioning; 9-inch infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; Qi wireless charger; full-width LED tail lights; 17-inch wheels; dual-tone paint job; roof rails; and a taller riding stance.
The Veloz also comes with class-leading advanced Toyota Safety Sense along with different front and rear bumpers to set it apart from the Alza. Boot size is generous at 498 litres when third row seats are folded.
The Veloz replaces the Avanza, gets a front-wheel drive platform (Avanza was rear-wheel drive), and boasts better driving performance and more safety equipment.
Launched in Indonesia in November last year, the Veloz became the archipelago nation’s third best-selling car in April.
UMW Toyota Motor will be offering the locally-assembled Veloz, powered by a 1.5-litre (2NR-VE) engine coupled to a seven-speed CVT. The four-cylinder petrol engine produces 105hp and 137Nm torque.
The Toyota distributor had started taking pre-bookings from June 24.
Members of the media were given a preview of the Veloz at its corporate headquarters in Shah Alam on Monday ahead of its launch today.
UMW Toyota Motor has received encouraging bookings for the Veloz, with over 6,000 customers making their reservations thus far.
