Toyota Land Cruiser just keeps on ticking
By CARSIFU | 07 April 2020ABU DHABI: With sport utility vehicles (SUVs) becoming more popular in recent years, it has allowed Toyota's older versions of its trusty Land Cruiser (J70 Series) to flourish even more as it continues to be sold with no end in sight.
While other more later SUV models have come and gone (like the FJ Cruiser), the J70 series Land Cruiser has managed to keep cruising on.
The Japanese automaker still sells this SUV in the Middle East and South Africa as well as in Australia where it's sold with the tagline: Still Powerful, Still Indestructible.
But what has contributed to the continued popularity of this SUV to a point that even militant groups have opted to use them in large numbers is because of its durability, reliability and the fact it's easy to service.
Seen as practically "bulletproof", buying spare parts for this Land Cruiser is still relatively easy even though the particular model rolled off (and is still rolling off) the production line since the mid-1980s.
Moreover, these parts are relativelyaffordable and are aplenty thanks to the volume of global sales with Australia being its largest contributor at over 40,000 units annually since 2019.
The J70 series of the Land Cruiser comes in a range of body styles from two-door pickups, hard-tops and soft-tops to three-door wagons and four-door vans - all with differing wheelbases.
As for powertrain options, there are a few petrol engines to choose from. On the diesel side, budding owners are spoilt for choice from the usual four-cylinder naturally-aspirated and turbodiesel mills to the.beefy V8 turbodiesel.
