Toyota expands GR Corolla line-up with automatic option and performance upgrades

DALLAS: From Toyota USA comes news that the GR Corolla line-up is expanding with the addition of the available 8-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) with paddle shifters.

This addition offers a choice between manual transmission for enthusiasts and the new automatic option, designed to enhance driving dynamics.

Developed with input from rally and racing drivers, the GR Corolla has undergone testing on world-class circuits, including Japan's Fuji International Speedway.

For 2025, the GR Corolla boasts a 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine producing 300hp and 400Nm of torque, providing improved performance over previous models. The suspension has also been retuned, enhancing cornering capabilities.

The new eight-speed automatic transmission has been fine-tuned for sporty driving, with close gear ratios for quicker response and acceleration.

It uses advanced software to optimise shifting based on driver input, offering performance akin to professional drivers.

Toyota also added features like a sub-radiator and an automatic transmission fluid cooler to enhance cooling for high-performance driving, particularly in DAT models.

The GR Corolla will feature four driving modes: Sport, Normal, ECO, and Custom, with the new automatic transmission specifically optimised for Sport mode.

Additionally, launch control has been introduced for the DAT models, allowing for quick acceleration off the line, particularly during track driving.

The 2025 GR Corolla also retains its six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission with rev-matching technology.

This system offers improved clutch responsiveness for quick starts and better control during dynamic driving.

Toyota has made significant enhancements to the GR Corolla's suspension system, increasing traction and handling through improvements such as the inclusion of rebound springs and refined rear suspension components.

The GR-FOUR all-wheel-drive system allows for tailored front/rear torque distribution, offering exceptional control across Normal, Gravel, and Track modes.

In terms of design, the 2025 GR Corolla features an updated front bumper that improves both cooling and aerodynamic performance.

Additional options include a factory-installed sub-radiator and larger air ducts for better airflow.

The GR Corolla comes in three grades: Core, Premium, and the newly introduced Premium Plus.

The Premium Plus grade includes sought-after features like a forged carbon fibre roof and matte black wheels.

The 2025 GR Corolla offers connected technology such as a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Toyota's safety suite, including features like Pre-Collision System and Lane Departure Alert, comes standard.

The six variants of the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla will be priced between US$38,860 and US$47,515 (between RM161,000 and RM197,000).

Toyota US dealerships are expected to receive the new GR Corolla by the fourth quarter.
