Toyo Proxes Sport 2 tyre: from RM700 to RM1,300
By CARSIFU | 23 May 2023KUALA LUMPUR: Toyo in Malaysia has unveiled two new tyre line-ups for local enthusiasts.
The new Toyo Proxes Sport 2 is billed as an ultra high-performance tyre for driving fans, while the Open Country (OP) AT III all-terrain tyre comes with increased lateral grooves for improved off-road traction.
"The Proxes Sport 2 is optimised for the high torque powertrains, to deliver an exciting ride for all sports drivers. We are confident that this series of tyres will quickly become a top choice for drivers seeking an ultra-high-performance tyre,” said Toyo Tyre Sales and Marketing Malaysia Sdn Bhd president and managing director Tan Song Chye at a launch event for the new offerings over the weekend.
Available in 31 sizes, prices for the Proxes Sport 2 range from RM700 to RM1,300 per tyre.
The Proxes Sport 2 features a unique asymmetrical design pattern optimised for both wet and dry conditions.
Its advanced asymmetric tread compound is said to ensure precise handling cornering stability and improves wet traction, which enables drivers to navigate corners with ease, while its exceptional wet grip promises superior traction on wet roads.
Compared with its predecessor, the Proxes Sport 2 is billed as enabling shorter braking distances in dry (4% shorter) and wet (16% shorter) conditions.
To demonstrate the capabilities of the new tyre, the company organised an experiential event for the media and tyre dealers.
Three cars namely a Mercedes-Benz C 200, BMW 3 Series sedan and a Lexus IS 300 were the premium mules for the event held at a car park area, where participants were told to accelerate quickly in the straight line, and as the car hit a wet and slippery patch of tarmac, bring the car to a complete stop by 'standing on the brakes'.
This was followed by a very brief dry slalom session to check out the handling and grip level of the new tyre design.
Meanwhile, the OP AT III all-terrain tyre is billed as a versatile tyre designed to handle both on and off-road adventures.
The OP AT III tyre highlights an aggressive tread pattern that provides excellent traction on various surfaces, including dirt and gravel.
It also features Toyo's proprietary T-Mode and Nano Balance technologies, offering a balance between comfort and performance.
To check out the capabilities of the OP AT III tyre, a Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi Triton VGT were among the pick-up trucks involved in a short off-road experiential course, designed with a patch of 'elephant humps', a side slope and stiff 'timber rolls'.
The OP AT III tyre is offered in 14 sizes, with prices ranging from RM500 to RM1,200 per tyre.
