Taxi ride in hydrogen-powered Toyota Corolla Cross H2 Concept
By THOMAS HUONG | 18 December 2022BURI RAM (Thailand): The media had a brief taxi ride in the Toyota Corolla Cross H2 Concept, which burns hydrogen instead of petrol, at this weekend's (December 16 to 18, 2022) Idemitsu 1500 Super Endurance race at the Chang International Circuit.
There is no fuel cell stack or lithium ion battery here, or electric motors found in EVs (electric vehicles.)
Instead, the Corolla Cross H2 has a 1.6-litre 3-cylinder engine with direct injection, and with very minor modifications, it is powered by hydrogen gas stored in two tanks.
That it exists is thanks to Toyota Motor Corp's vision of a world with regular cars with combustion engines that run on hydrogen, a renewable energy source.
The Corolla Cross H2 has a manual transmission, and runs and sounds just like a powerful and exciting, fun-to-drive turbocharged combustion engined sports car, instead of a soul-less smartphone on wheels.
The taxi ride took place in Buri Ram, which is about 400km north-east of Bangkok.
