Taiwan's Lilin introduces AI-enhanced licence plate camera

TAIPEI: Taiwanese surveillance company Lilin has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered licence plate recognition camera that processes all data internally, eliminating the need for external computing resources.

This edge computing capability aims to reduce setup costs and streamline operations for applications such as law enforcement, parking management, and access control.

Building on decades of experience in licence plate recognition technology, Lilin's latest camera integrates AI to accurately identify a broad spectrum of vehicle plates, including those on motorcycles, trucks, military and diplomatic vehicles, and test vehicles.

Beyond reading plates, the system recognises vehicle types, colours, and brands, encompassing both domestic and imported models.

Lilin's Intelligent Traffic Solutions combine licence plate recognition with behavior analysis to detect traffic violations like running red lights and making illegal turns.

The cameras feature an internal access control list, allowing management based on time, vehicle type, or specific plate numbers. Recognition results can be integrated into parking management systems and customised through Lilin's open-source software development kit.

A significant advantage of Lilin's system is its on-device processing. By handling recognition, behavior analysis, and event processing within the camera itself, the need for additional computing infrastructure is removed.

This approach not only cuts installation costs but also simplifies maintenance and enhances operational efficiency.

The company's AI solutions extend beyond traffic applications, supporting user-defined recognition models adaptable to various industries.

With over 40 years in the surveillance sector, Lilin emphasizes cybersecurity compliance and integrates AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things), edge computing, and security devices into unified systems.

Their Taiwan-made products are used in sectors such as construction, transportation, ports, military, and retail.

The integration of AI and edge computing in surveillance technology represents a significant advancement in the industry.

Lilin's new camera positions the company as a leader in providing efficient, customisable, and secure surveillance solutions for a wide range of applications.
