Sime Motors and CompAsia parnter to combat e-waste in Southeast Asia

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Motors has teamed up with CompAsia to tackle the mounting challenge of electronic waste (e-waste).

CompAsia is a Singapore-based company that recycles and repurposes electronic waste in Southeast Asia.

The collaboration, which will cover Sime Motors’ operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia, aims to facilitate the responsible disposal and recycling of e-waste, underscoring both companies’ commitment to environmental sustainability.

Amid an rising surge in discarded electronics, the alliance introduces a trade-in programme offering customers and employees a way to exchange their outdated devices for cash or discounts on new purchases.

This initiative not only provides a convenient solution for e-waste management but also promotes the concept of extending device life cycles by encouraging the adoption of refurbished alternatives.

Both organisations believe that these measures will contribute to a more robust circular economy and lessen the environmental burden associated with landfill waste.

The new initiative builds on Sime Motors’ longstanding environmental stewardship and is set to be complemented by a series of corporate social responsibility projects.

These projects include further rollouts of device trade-in programmes and targeted awareness campaigns on e-waste reduction.

In addition, devices that meet quality standards will be refurbished and donated to underserved communities in Malaysia, ensuring that their lifecycle is extended and waste is minimised.

Present at the signing ceremony were Sime Motors managing director for Southeast Asia Jeffrey Gan; Inokom & Distribution Malaysia managing director Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz; CompAsia chief strategy officer George Hashim; and CompAsia Malaysia country head Kevin Ng.
