Shell introduces contactless Visa payments for EV charging
By CARSIFU | 19 January 2025KUALA LUMPUR: Shell Malaysia and ParkEasy, in collaboration with Visa, have launched contactless payment terminals at selected Shell Recharge locations in the Klang Valley, enhancing convenience for electric vehicle (EV) users.
The initiative enables users to pay for charging sessions using credit or debit cards, streamlining the charging process.
The contactless terminals are now operational at four Shell Recharge sites: Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Pavilion Bukit Jalil, and Pavilion Damansara Heights. Both Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) chargers are supported. Users simply park at a charging bay, select the bay number on the terminal, and tap their card to pay. A pre-authorisation fee of RM150 is applied for each session.
As part of the launch, customers paying with Visa cards at these locations between Jan 15 and June 30 will receive a 10% cashback, capped at RM5 per session. Additionally, ParkEasy app users who top up a minimum of 50 credits using a Visa card will get a 10% credit rebate, capped at 5 credits per transaction.
The initiative is in line with Shell Malaysia's goal of improving the accessibility and convenience of EV charging services. It also supports Visa's goal to promote contactless payment solutions and seamless transactions in emerging sectors like EV charging.
“Shell Malaysia’s collaboration with Visa marks a significant step towards further enhancing the convenience of EV charging for our customers,” said Shell's Mobility Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming.
“By enabling Visa card payments at our Shell Recharge sites and giving attractive rebates for top-ups with a Visa card, we are making it easier for customers to access and pay for charging services, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable experience.”
