Reverse exodus to the Klang Valley begins
By THE STAR | 02 January 2023GOMBAK: The rush home to the city after a long weekend and holidays has started. Traffic was reported to be heavy at a stretch between Karak and the Gombak toll plaza.
According to Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed, traffic began to pick up around 4pm yesterday as many road users headed to the Klang Valley.
“Traffic was slow from Karak towards Gombak, but it started getting heavier at the 37.5 kilometre mark near the Genting Sempah tunnel,” he said.
“Heavy traffic continued after the Gombak toll plaza towards the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).”
ACP Zainal said traffic was much better after vehicles reached the MRR2.
“We believe many people are returning from their hometowns after the school holidays.
“They were probably taking advantage of the public holiday replacement on Monday to rest before the start of the work week,” he added.
Traffic is expected to be heavier today as it marks the end of the long weekend.
“I advise those returning from their hometowns or holiday destinations to plan their travel properly. Don’t get stuck in the returning rush,” he said.
ACP Zainal reminded road users to refer to various tools, including social media, to check on the traffic situation.
“Such tools will enable them to plan their travel better. The most important thing is arriving at the destination safely,” he said.
