Renault reveals production car in world-first documentary

PARIS: Renault has become the first automaker to unveil a production vehicle through a documentary, using its series Anatomy of a Comeback on Amazon's Prime Video to showcase the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

The Easter egg appears at the end of the fourth episode, where Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, Renault brand CEO Fabrice Cambolive, and VP of Renault Design Gilles Vidal visit the Design Department.

During the segment, de Meo confirms the Renault 5 Turbo 3E as an upcoming production model.

The series, released on Dec 13, chronicles Renault Group's recovery from a crisis that threatened its existence in the early 2020s.

The company’s "Renaulution" roadmap, described as a last-chance transformation plan, is central to the narrative. The documentary offers unprecedented access to Renault’s design and manufacturing processes, the development of new models like the Renault 5, and the Alpine Formula One paddocks.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E revives the legacy of the iconic Renault 5 Turbo, first introduced 46 years ago.

Styled as a modern, all-electric re-interpretation of the original, it was initially teased as a concept at the 2022 Paris Motor Show.

The production version retains its retro-futuristic design, featuring lightweight carbon superstructure, a rear-wheel drive layout, and two electric motors delivering over 500bhp.

The car accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 3.5 seconds, rivalling high-performance supercars.

Renault plans exclusive activations in 2025 to further highlight the model, its heritage and motorsport-inspired design.
