Raya road ops run from April 18-27
By BERNAMA | 11 April 2023BENTONG: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will hold “Ops Bersepadu JPJ” in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration from April 18 to 27, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said 231 locations across the country have been identified as frequent accident areas or “hotspots” where monitoring will be stepped up.
"If an area has been identified to have frequent accidents, the approach is to station patrol cars to conduct patrols so that drivers will be more careful with the presence of enforcement officers.
"I hope motorists will obey the traffic rules, especially in Pahang because it is the main route to the East Coast from the Klang Valley and of course, millions of vehicles will be passing through it. Besides, we will also implement a ban on heavy vehicles as usual," he said.
He said this at a press conference after attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Bentong JPJ office, in Jalan Chamang, here today.
Also present were Pahang public works, transport and health committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff and JPJ director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim.
Meanwhile, Loke said in addition to this district, two more new JPJ buildings are being built, namely in Sarikei, Sarawak and Muar, Johor.
On the construction of the new Bentong JPJ branch, Loke said in his speech that it was aimed at replacing the existing office located at Taman Datuk Shah Bandar Hussin, where it has been operating since 1983.
He said the office in a shophouse now is small and could not accommodate about 180 visitors a day or 50,000 people a year.
Thus, he said, the government has approved the construction of a smart office concept building on a 0.6474ha site with an allocation of RM10.4mil under the 11th Malaysia Plan. It is expected to be completed in April 2025.
It is located about one kilometre from Bentong town centre and the new office, which is easily accessible, can benefit almost 120,000 residents of this district and the surrounding community in addition to JPJ's own staff.
"The government is aware that in order to ensure that JPJ provides the best service to the people, it has to be empowered in the digital aspect with appropriate infrastructure provided so that JPJ remains relevant," he said.
