Proton to introduce S70 R3 racing car at autoshow
By CARSIFU | 21 May 2024SHAH ALAM: Proton will unveil the S70 R3 racing car developed by its R3 Motorsports arm at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024.
Held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Selangor (MAEPS), Serdang from May 22-26, the S70 R3 marks Proton R3's first all-new racing car since the Proton Saga R3 in 2019, heralding the brand's return to the Sepang 1,000km endurance (S1K) race since that year.
Proton will enter two units of the new car which features the latest evolution of the aerodynamic package at this year's S1K endurance race.
With five wins under its belt, more than any other team, Proton R3 achieved a remarkable feat by securing victory for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019.
This all-new racing machine is an extension of Proton's racing legacy, tracing back to its pre-R3 era when the company competed in rallies and circuit competitions with the original Proton Saga.
Proton deputy chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said the company has a long history in motorsports.
"Starting with the original Proton Saga and our involvement was ramped up with the inception of Proton R3 in 2003.
"Since then, we have competed and won in various competitions up to a global level with models as varied as the Proton Satria, Waja, Suprima S, Iriz, and the latest version of the Saga.
"Now with the Proton S70 R3, we are adding another milestone to our legacy, marking not only the return of the Proton name to the S1K event but also the first racing car based on a model jointly developed by Proton and Geely," he said.
Attendees who book their Proton models at the autoshow will receive exclusive gifts such as sunshades, toll readers and wireless chargers for certain models.
A special promo is also being offered that is exclusive to bookings placed at the event with registration by June 30.
It includes two years of free service maintenance for the X50, X70, and X90 models as well as RM500 cash voucher for the S70, Saga, and Persona.
There is also a Test Drive Lucky Spin where participants can earn a lucky spin to win exclusive Proton merchandise after test driving a Proton model.
