Proton shows off e.MAS 7 prototype at National Day parade

PUTRAJAYA: Proton trotted out its first electric vehicle, the e.MAS 7 , as part of the 2024 National Day parade today, alongside its other models, reflecting the national carmaker’s evolution over its 41-year history.

The e-MAS 7 is still a prototype in pre-production stage and was covered in camouflage to mask its exterior; the windows and windscreens were darkened to hide interior details. The car was covered in a special Jalur Gemilang wrap to mark the occasion.

Proton had announced on Aug 28 that the electric car, developed with the help of China's Geely, would join the parade.

Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman, representing the DRB-Hicom contingent at the parade, described the e.MAS 7 as a significant milestone for Proton.

"This is the first public appearance of the e.MAS 7 (prototype), which is set to be launched by the end of the year,” he said on the sidelines of the 2024 National Day parade.

"We showcased every Proton model, from the Saga, launched in 1985, to the Wira, Putra, Tiara, Savvy, and the X Series, including models yet to be launched,” said Mahmood, who previously worked as DRB-Hicom Bhd’s communications chief.

Based on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA), the e.MAS 7 is set to feature a 12-in-1 motor with a claimed 90.04% efficiency and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery using Aegis "short blade" battery cells.

It will also use a Flyme Auto infotainment system powered by a 7nm chip.
