Proton e.MAS 7 undergoing rigorous local tests, you might just spot them on the road

SUBANG JAYA: Proton's first national electric vehicle, the e.MAS 7, is undergoing extensive local road testing in Malaysia, following its public debut at the 67th National Day celebrations in Putrajaya.

PRO-NET, the company behind the project, is confident in the vehicle’s progress, highlighting its advanced features such as the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform, a 12-in-1 intelligent electric propulsion system, Cell-To-Body battery architecture, and Flyme Auto Connectivity System.

Six e.MAS 7 units are being tested across diverse terrains in Peninsular Malaysia to ensure the SUV meets local market demands.

The testing phase includes Durability Adaptive Testing (DAT), Electrical Road Testing (ERT), Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) tests, and Quality Reliability Testing (QRT).

The tests are designed to assess the vehicle’s performance under various conditions, including local traffic patterns, navigation accuracy, and Internet connectivity, particularly in rural and challenging areas.

The e.MAS 7’s systems have been tailored for the Malaysian market, including localising software components like the Digital Head Unit (DHU) and Telematic Service Provider (TSP) to ensure seamless functionality in local settings.

Rigorous testing of the vehicle’s ADAS was conducted in various scenarios, including shopping mall parking lots, road forks, and elevated roads, to ensure reliability in real-world driving conditions.

Additional enhancements include requests from Geely to implement 49 unique processes and features to ensure the e.MAS 7 meets local and global standards.

The vehicle has shown superior performance in water-wading capabilities, handling water depths of up to 400mm, surpassing its Geely counterpart.

Further tests at the proving ground simulated real Malaysian road conditions, leading to necessary adjustments to optimise performance.

Looking ahead, the e.MAS 7 will undergo Asean NCAP accreditation to validate its safety standards and a QRT phase, which includes achieving 100,000km in acceleration, braking, and power consumption tests.

These efforts highlighted Proton’s move to create a vehicle that meets the needs of Malaysian drivers.

PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang said this phase of testing was critical as "our team is dedicated to ensuring that the e.MAS 7 stands up to the highest standards of quality and reliability, paving the way for its grand launch".
