Porsche to assemble cars in Malaysia, says report
By CARSIFU | 09 February 2021
PETALING JAYA: Porsche is teaming up with Inokom Corp to set up an assembly plant in Malaysia, according to The Edge Weekly report.
This would be the German sports car maker's first overseas plant.
The report, citing unnamed sources, said the plant in Kedah would serve as a regional hub as Porsche is bullish on growth in South-East Asia.
Inokom, a unit of Sime Darby Motors, would build a plant to cater specifically for Porsche production. The Edge said the Porsche investment was facilitated by government perks offered to the German car maker.
Inokom also assembles cars for BMW, MINI, Mazda and Hyundai.
