Porsche Taycan GTS sets ice drift world record

STUTTGART: Porsche has set a new Guinness World Records title for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an electric car.

Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter completed 132 laps, covering 17.503km in 46 minutes using a Taycan GTS on Jan 14.

The record attempt took place at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland, 150km north of the Arctic Circle, with Richter maintaining controlled oversteer despite challenging conditions.

The attempt initially faced setbacks due to rapid ice track deterioration, forcing an early stop after 11km.. The team adjusted by switching to shorter tyre spikes and resumed the effort at night when temperatures dropped, improving traction. The final result surpassed the previous record of 14.809km.

The Taycan GTS was fitted with Michelin tyres featuring one-millimetre spikes and equipped with a professional GPS system to track distance, vehicle dynamics, and driver inputs.

An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, Carl Saville, verified the achievement and awarded the certificate to Richter and Porsche Arctic Center managing director Christian Lehwald.

The Taycan GTS now holds four Guinness World Records titles. Previous achievements include the greatest altitude change for an EV on the Xinjiang-Tibet route, fastest speed inside a building, and longest drift on a dry surface.
