Porsche expands Taycan lineup with enhanced GTS and all-wheel drive Taycan 4
By CARSIFU | 13 November 2024STUTTGART: Porsche has introduced three new versions to its extensively modernised Taycan lineup, now offering 16 models with various power configurations and body styles.
The additions include the new Taycan GTS, Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, and Taycan 4 sports sedan with all-wheel drive.
These new models, which emphasise performance, efficiency, and extended range, will be available in dealerships starting early 2025.
Expanded Taycan family
Porsche has expanded the Taycan range to cater to diverse customer needs. The lineup now includes three body types with options for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.
Power output across the models ranges from 300 to 760kW. The new additions include the Taycan GTS models and the Taycan 4, broadening the portfolio to a total of 16 versions.
Enhanced features
The latest updates incorporate a redesigned powertrain, increased battery capacity, and advanced software for improved performance and efficiency. These models boast a new rear-axle motor that delivers up to 80 kW more power than previous iterations.
Enhanced charging capabilities now allow for up to 320 kW at 800-volt DC charging stations, significantly reducing charging times.
Porsche's latest upgrades also include optimised thermal management, a next-generation heat pump, and a refined recuperation system. Maximum energy recuperation during braking has increased to 400 kW, enhancing efficiency.
Taycan GTS: Sporty performance and extended range
The new Taycan GTS, available in both sedan and Sport Turismo versions, aims to uphold the legacy of Porsche’s Gran Turismo Sport (GTS) models.
It features a power boost of up to 515 kW with Launch Control, making it 75 kW more powerful than its predecessor. A unique "push-to-pass" function in the standard Sport Chrono package allows for a 70 kW boost for 10 seconds at the press of a button.
Performance metrics for the GTS models are impressive, with a 0-100 kph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds and a sprint from 0-200kph in 10.4 seconds.
The range has been extended by over 120km, now reaching up to 628km under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).
In addition to enhanced performance, the Taycan GTS comes with distinct exterior features, including black and anthracite accents, and an interior decked out with Race-Tex materials and sporty design elements.
Standard equipment includes 20-inch Turbo S Aero Design wheels, an 18-way adjustable Adaptive Sports Seats Plus, and a BOSE Surround Sound System.
Taycan 4: Entry-level model with all-wheel drive
The new Taycan 4 sports sedan now offers all-wheel drive, combining the efficiency of the entry-level Taycan with superior handling.
The Taycan 4 comes with two battery options: the standard Performance battery with a range of up to 559km or the Performance Battery Plus, extending the range to 643km.
Equipped with electric motors on both axles, the Taycan 4 ensures greater traction and stability. It accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 4.6 seconds, slightly faster than its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
This model benefits from Porsche's updated all-wheel drive strategy, which decouples the front motor when not needed for efficiency, re-engaging it instantaneously when necessary.
Exterior and interior upgrades
All Taycan models now feature new colour options, including Slate Grey Neo, Pale Blue Metallic, and Purple Sky Metallic. The Taycan GTS receives distinctive design cues like high-gloss black inlays and optional 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels.
Interior enhancements for the Taycan 4 include black partial leather trim, 8-way adjustable comfort seats, and a suite of standard technology features like Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and Adaptive Air Suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).
