SUV gets rear-ended on US highway — by a plane
By JAY WONG | 08 December 2020
WASHINGTON: There's always the risk of getting into a fender-bender when out and about on roads, but it's not very common to see a plane land in front of you...let alone on you.
On Dec 2, the latter actually happened to Brittany Yurik as she drove her sports utility vehicle (SUV) along Minnesota's I-35 highway in the US.
A CCTV video showed a plane - flown by 52-year-old aerobatic pilot Craig Gifford, making an emergency landing on the highway due to complete engine failure.
The plane touched down safely only to clip Yurik's SUV from the rear.
After the initial impact, both plane and driver finally rolled to a complete stop along a concrete barrier. Both pilot and driver emerged unscathed.
The footage was recorded by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Although the landing was executed due to the single-engine Bellanca Viking plane experiencing an engine failure, the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board in the US will conduct further investigations.
