Perodua's first EV display NOT the actual production model slated for 2025 launch
By CARSIFU | 21 May 2024SERDANG: Perodua has unveiled its first working electric vehicle (EV) prototype, the Myvi Conversion, which will serve as the foundation for the company's future electrification efforts.
The prototype, featuring a power bench, power converter, and unique styling, is mainly developed in Malaysia, with the power conversion technology created in collaboration with an Australian company.
However, Perodua president and CEO Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the production model will differ from this prototype.
The actual Perodua EV would be launched in 2025, priced from between RM50,000 and RM100,000.
Without going into details, Zainal revealed that the battery would have a capacity of around 40kWh to 60kWh. Such capacities could provide at least 270km of range to around 350km, making them suitable for commuting and short trips.
"The actual first Perodua EV will look different from what is on display here, but be assured that the day is coming," said Zainal.
The development of the power bench involved partnerships with three local universities — Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and Universiti Putra Malaysia.
This collaboration, which began in September 2022, aims to enhance the expertise and capabilities of all parties in EV technology.
“This is a beginning for us, and we want to make this beginning as Malaysian as possible,” said Zainal.
Zainal said the Myvi was used because of its popularity and significance to Malaysians.
