UPDATE: Need more space? The Suzuki Jimny 5-door arrived in Malaysia on July 30, 2024. Still fully imported, it is priced at RM199,950. Unlike the 3-door variant, the 5-door one is shipped in from Suzuki's plant in India.
PETALING JAYA: The Suzuki Jimny has made a comeback to Malaysia with the latest fourth generation 3-door model available for booking.
As the Jimny is fully imported from Japan, it comes with a hefty price tage of RM168,900 (2024 price starts from RM158,900 with special edition variants costing more). The price is on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a 50% sales and service tax rebate.
The Jimny launch is the second Suzuki model to be offered in Malaysia under new distributor Naza Eastern Motors Sdn Bhd. The first was the re-introduction of the Suzuki Swift Sport in April 2021.
The highly anticipated Jimny is targeted at 4WD enthusiasts. With its classic yet functional design, it builds on the legacy of its predecessors since its debut in 1970, being small, lightweight and a capable 4WD vehicle.
Equipped with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission, the Jimny offers both urban and off-road capabilities.
The engine's strong torque across a wide RPM range is complemented by the "Allgrip Pro" system, which features selectable 4WD with a low-range transfer case, hill descent, and hill-hold functions.
The Jimny's lightweight design, weighing only 1,095kg, enhances its off-road performance and fuel efficiency.
Key features for off-roading include a ladder frame, 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil springs, a high ground clearance of 210mm, and excellent approach, breakover, and departure angles.
Inside, the Jimny maintains a classic 4-seater configuration with wider front seats for better support, along with improved headroom and legroom.
The rear seats can be reclined flat, offering up to 830 litres of cargo space.
The interior features a blend of retro design and modern conveniences, including digital air-conditioning controls, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and a touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth.
Suzuki said the Jimny comes with high safety levels. It features the company's "Total Effective Control Technology" for improved impact absorption and pedestrian protection.
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) helps maintain control on slippery roads by adjusting engine torque and brakes. The vehicle also includes Isofix car seat mounts for easy and safe installation of child seats.
The Jimny is available in four colours: Kinetic Yellow & Bluish Black Pearl; Jungle Green; Medium Grey; and Bluish Black Pearl 3.
Since the entry of this new Jimny, three special editions have been introduced: Jimny Rhino edition in 2023; and Jimny Rainforest and Black editions in early 2024
