STUTTGART: Mercedes-Benz's Manufaktur customisation programme is a moneyspinner and it stands to reason that it wants to expand on it.
It recently opened a new Manufaktur Studio at its Sindelfingen plant on the outskirts here in line with that goal.
Known for producing top-tier models like the S-Class, Sindelfingen is now the hub for Mercedes’ expanded personalisation offerings, blending traditional craftsmanship with advanced digital production techniques.
The Manufaktur Studio, launched on Dec 5, allows customers to witness the customisation of their vehicles in real-time.
After configuring their dream cars at the Center of Excellence, clients can see how features such as custom interiors, exclusive colours, and unique design elements are integrated. The studio employs advanced technologies like autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) for flexible production and a "digital twin" system for real-time monitoring and last-minute adjustments.
Mercedes-AMG head for G-Class and Maybach divisions Michael Schiebe said the Manufaktur programme accounted for over 30% of top-end segment sales in the first half of 2024.
"Our Manufaktur programme offers discerning clients the opportunity to customise a selection of vehicles with the star according to their wishes," he said, noting plans to expand offerings for the S-Class and AMG sports cars.
The Manufaktur programme also features PixelPaint, an innovative process for precise, multi-coloured vehicle paint jobs inspired by inkjet printing. This technology enables intricate patterns and bespoke designs to be achieved for customers.
Helping customer cars stand out are the Manufaktur range of exclusive materials, finishes and colours tailored to their requirements. Mercedes-Benz said the S-Class would feature additional Manufaktur options in 2025 as it is a flagship model.
