LOS ANGELES: Honda teased the development of the next Civic Type R with the release of photos showing the prototype Type R about to undergo Nürburgring testing.
The all-new Civic Type R will be introduced in 2022. Price is estimated to be be from under US$40,000 (RM168,000).
It's based on the 11th-generation Civic hatchback.
The photos show the new Type R shod on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tyres wrapped around 10-spoke black wheels. It's also equipped with red Brembo brake calipers along with a big rear wing and three exhaust tips.
Although the powertrain was not revealed, it's believed the new Type R will retain the turbocharged 2.0-litre as its predecessor but with more output and torque. So we can expect more than 306hp and 400Nm that the current Type R offers.
