Modenas to debut re-badged Kawasaki Ninja 250


KUALA LUMPUR: Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional (Modenas) has officially partnered with Kawasaki to debut a new motorcycle based on the Ninja 250 that is also sold in Japan as well as North America.

The special edition bike was previewed during the launch of the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) and looks to be launched sometime in the second half of this year.

Seen cloaked in black with the "Modenas" type font at the head of the bike, it comes powered by a familiar 249cc twin-cylinder Euro 4 engine with eight valves and dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) that feeds from a 14-litre fuel tank.

Power is sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual gearbox - complemented by an assist and slipper clutch, to manage the output which is assumed to remain the same 38.2hp at 12,500rpm and 23.5Nm of torque at 10,000rpm.

The rider's instrument cluster consists of a combination of a digital-speedometer, analogue tachometer and gear indicator.

In the brakes department, the 164kg (wet) bike is equipped with anti-lock braking system as standard for its front 310mm single semi-floating disc with two-piston calliper residing at the bottom of the 41mm telescopic front forks.

The rear gets a 220mm single-disc brake with two-piston calliper.

Other features include re-designed radiator fan cover, air intakes and ergonomics and a rear-LED light taken from the Kawasaki ZX-10R.
