JOHOR BARU: The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has issued 22 written notices to transportation companies following the floating of diesel prices starting June 10.

Johor Domestic Trade director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the notice was given on June 8 under ‘Ops Kesan 2.0’ following the government's announcement of the new regulations.

“We have conducted 50 inspections under Ops Kesan 2.0 and have issued 20 written notices under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (AKHAP 2011) to various companies involved in transportation.

“Two other written notices were issued following public complaints about a towing company based in Ulu Tiram, here, and a transportation company in Muar,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters after conducting a price check surveillance for Hari Raya Aidiladha at KipMart Tampoi, here, on Sunday (June 16).

Lilis added that Section 21 allows for investigations into how the companies calculate prices and whether there are any attempts at profiteering.

“All of the company owners are given six days to reply to our notice and justify their action on why there is any increase in the price of their services,” she added.

Under Section 21 of AKHAP 2011, any companies found to be taking advantage of price manipulation will be subject to strict action and may be fined up to RM500,000 for corporations or companies and up to RM100,000 for individuals, or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both.

Earlier, the government announced that diesel prices will be floated and retail at RM3.35 per litre in the peninsula from June 10.

This is based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism formula for May. The previous price of diesel announced on June 5 was RM2.15 per litre, which will be maintained for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
