Michelin stops using plastic wrap on selected motorcycle tyres
By CARSIFU | 09 December 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Michelin expands its efforts to minimise single-use plastics through the elimination of plastic wrap on motorcycle tyres to key markets across Southeast Asia.
Locally, Michelin Malaysia has already stop using wraps for tyres sold at its dealers nationwide since the start of this month.
The move follows a successful pilot project carried out in Indonesia in 2021.
The move in Malaysia is part of regional efforts that have resulted in a reduction of an estimated 317,700 kilograms of plastic waste in 2024, in the five major markets of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Additionally, the move directly contributes to Michelin’s goal of zero net waste from tyre wraps across its global operations – a significant step towards sustainable mobility.
Together with the elimination of plastic wrap on its motorcycle tyres, Michelin has re-designed the sticker label, affixed directly to the motorcycle tyre tread, to contain all the necessary tyre information for quick and easy identification.
The motorcycle tyres without plastic wrap still come with the same warranty coverage, which covers defects in manufacturing and materials, for six years from
the date of production.
Tyre patterns that will be involved in the initiative will include:
> Michelin Anakee Street
> Michelin City Extra
> Michelin City Grip
> Michelin City Grip 2
> Michelin City Grip Saver
> Michelin Pilot Moto Gp
> Michelin Pilot Street
> Michelin Pilot Street 2
> Michelin Power Shift
