Michelin Malaysia unveils Primacy 5 tyre: RM477 to RM1K

KUALA LUMPUR: Michelin Malaysia recently launched the Primacy 5 tyre for passenger cars and crossovers, with recommended retail pricing from RM477 to RM1,026.

In Malaysia, the Primacy 5 is offered in 25 dimensions from 16 to 19 inches at Michelin authorised tyre dealers.

All 18-inch and above tyres feature aesthetic sidewalls with full-ring velvet line.

Additionally, from January 6 to April 9, 2025, three lucky Michelin customers will have the opportunity to drive home a new 2025 Tesla Model Y Facelift when they buy at least two Michelin tyres of any size from participating Michelin dealerships.

As a significant upgrade to its predecessor, Michelin Primacy 4, this new Primacy 5 tyre comes with key innovations for greater performance and lower environmental impact.

Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei managing director Prichapakorn Dangrojana said, “The new Michelin Primacy 5 was developed to meet the evolving demands of modern vehicles, while reducing its environmental impact. Modern vehicles, particularly hybrids and electric vehicles, place increased demands on tyres, due to their increased horsepower and higher weight. The tyre's construction has therefore been optimized to handle these demands - with improvements in wear life and rolling resistance contributing to lower running costs, while the sustained wet grip performance ensures safety throughout the tyre's extended life.”

The new Michelin Primacy 5 boasts new outstanding benefits including:

• Premium Comfort Drive, thanks to a new tread pattern design featuring the Michelin Silent Rib Gen-3 technology that significantly reduces vibrations and noise for a smoother, quieter, comfortable, and more relaxed driving experience.

• Excellent Longevity, with 24% more mileage compared to other premium brands, due to a 10% increase in void ratio compared to its predecessor, alongside optimized lateral groove edges, which contributes to the longer lasting wet performance.

This is combined with MaxTouch technology, which maximizes contact with the road and evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking, and cornering.

Together, these factors deliver longer tread life without compromising safety - allowing customers to enjoy their adventures over an extended period, while getting the most value out of their tyres.

• Safety on Wet Roads for Longer, with 8% (when new) and 13% (when worn) shorter braking distance than other premium brands, thanks to Functional Elastomers 3.0 featuring Michelin EverGrip and Michelin EverTread Technologies that optimize water evacuation, providing excellent wet braking performance — ensuring a secure journey for the drivers and their loved ones.

• EV Compatibility, with a high-performance tread rubber compound that reduces the tyre’s rolling resistance by 13% to improve energy consumption — thus, helping to extend the electric vehicle’s battery range.

While making advances on performance, safety and comfort, the Michelin Primacy 5 is also more respectful to the environment - in line with the Michelin Group’s ambitious “All Sustainable” strategy.

Its rolling resistance is reduced by 5%, and its longevity is by 18%, which mean that the tyre can be used until the legal tread depth — thus, generating less waste. By design, its environmental footprint has been decreased by 6%.
