Proton kicks off 2024 Merdeka campaign

SUBANG JAYA: Proton has launched the "Saga-Merdeka Easy To Own" campaign in celebration of Malaysia's National Day and as a gesture of giving back to the rakyat (people).

Malaysians will get an opportunity to own the iconic Saga with attractive incentives and deals until the end of August.

During this month, buyers will receive a RM500 cash rebate on the purchase of any Saga variant.

This rebate is available to all customers, making this iconic vehicle even more affordable and accessible.

On top of that, Maybank customers are eligible for an additional RM200 rebate when the promotional message from Maybank is presented by the customer in any participating Proton dealers.

This exclusive offer is available for walk-in bookings made on the weekends of Aug 10 and 17.

Proton Edar chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said the Saga came a long way in serving the nation by enhancing mobility.

"At Proton, we are steadfast in our commitment to driving Saga sales forward, especially with our latest promotion timed to coincide with Merdeka month.

"This initiative not only reflects our commitment to bring Saga to newer heights but also celebrates our national pride, reinforcing the Saga as a symbol of Malaysian innovation and resilience," he said.

The Saga nameplate which entered its 39th year of continuous production, is the first-ever Malaysian car produced by Proton, raked in a remarkable 7,855 units in sales last month, marking the best single-month achievement for the model since October 2013.

Cumulatively, year-to-date (YTD) sales for the model have grown 8.8% year-on-year to 42,693 units, setting the stage for a stellar sales year ahead.

Since the first Saga rolled off the production lines on July 9, 1985, its sales have surpassed the 2 million mark this year, solidifying its status as the most popular model from a Malaysian automotive brand.

In addition, Proton is working closely with its partner Zhejiang Geely Holding Ltd (Geely) to explore model enhancement activities from the existing platform.

The collaborative efforts between both companies over the years are expected to pick up pace after the establishment of Proton R&D Centre (China) in April.
