Two Jomcharge AC chargers have been installed at Saujana Golf & Country Club, Shah Alam.
The initiative aims to enhance EV ownership while promoting sustainable mobility.
For a start, the partnership includes charging stations at five participating luxury locations, namely Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang and Marriott Hotel in Penang; The RuMa Hotel & Residences in Kuala Lumpur; Saujana Golf & Country Club here; and Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas in Johor.
Mercedes-Benz customers can access these facilities and enjoy privileges by presenting their Mercedes-Benz Card or App. Benefits to be gained from partner hotels include room upgrades, early check-in/late check-out, in-house dining credit/discounts and EV charging discounts.
The announcement was made at the Saujana Golf & Country Club here, where two Jomcharge AC chargers have been installed.
This collaboration is part of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s broader strategy to strengthen its EV charging network through three key channels:
> Charge@Home: Wallbox installations for private residences.
> Charge@Retail: Charging facilities at Mercedes-Benz retail outlets for customer convenience during visits.
> Charge@Public: Branded chargers at partner hotels, resorts and golf courses.
Mercedes-Benz is also working with operators like EV Connection, ChargeEV and Gentari to expand Malaysia’s charging network and ensure consistent access for EV owners. In addition, it is running a pilot project in Penang where it offers mobile charging to stranded EV owners or those who are unable to reach a charging station.
As a distributor, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia does not dictate whether the chargers are free to use or a fee (standard or promotional) is payable at the retail and public sites.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia customer service vice president Edmin Naidoo said it is up to the individual retailers and charge point operators to impose a fee or not for using their facilities. The decision to install DC chargers and/or AC chargers depends on the location, he said.
DC or fast chargers are typically installed at high traffic or transit locations, where EV drivers are on tight schedules or long trips.
AC chargers are suited for residential or workplaces, lower traffic areas and destinations with extended stays such as hotels, where slower charging is acceptable - and cheaper, too.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO Amanda Zhang said the company is seeking to combine sustainable mobility with luxury experiences "beyond the road".
"Our long-term strategy is not only about making electric vehicle ownership more accessible but also to enhance every touchpoint of our customers’ journey through tailored solutions and meaningful partnerships that embody our commitment to sustainability and innovation.”
Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia plans to explore partnerships with shopping malls, additional hotels, and other premium venues to further enhance its lifestyle offerings.
