Mercedes-Benz sets 2039 target for exclusively EV offering
By BERNAMA | 20 October 2023PETALING JAYA: Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for a transition from primarily electric to exclusively electric vehicles (EV) by the year 2039, with the objective of achieving complete carbon neutrality across its daily trading activities within the sales fleet.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia chief executive officer and president, Amanda Zhang emphasised the importance of initiating discussions about this goal today, even though 2039 may seem distant.
"The reason for starting this conversation early is to acknowledge that we are embarking on a significant transformation.
"I consistently advise my team that if they are not inclined to embrace transformative changes today, they should reconsider their involvement in the automotive industry," she told reporters at the launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 sport utility vehicles today.
Zhang also highlighted that the scale of the transformation driven by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia extends beyond the company and the automotive sector.
"It involves establishing new partnerships, encompassing automakers, suppliers, energy companies, political entities, the media and society as a whole.
"We believe that the sooner we communicate our ambitions, the sooner we can begin to establish clear objectives and initiate the transformation process. Therefore, we are diligently adhering to our strategy, even here in Malaysia," she added.
