Mercedes-Benz's Pekan plant rolls out 100,000th passenger car

KUANTAN: The Mercedes-Benz factory in Pekan is celebrating another milestone of production – rolling out its 100,000th Mercedes-Benz passenger car.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia said it aims to boost the local economy with continuous investment efforts that have amounted to over RM500mil to date in its Pekan plant, strengthening the company’s local vehicle production quality. The plant was set up in 2004.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia president and CEO and Mercedes-Benz Cars SEA II head of region Amanda Zhang said the company is the first and only luxury car maker to master the local production process in Malaysia.

Another milestone achieved earlier this year was the start of the locally-assembled EQS 500, which accelerated the brand’s electric mobility drive.

Globally, Mercedes-Benz has targeted to go all-electric by the end of this decade (qualifying it with "wherever market conditions allow").

Under its “Ambition 2039”, Mercedes-Benz is working to make its fleet of new vehicles net carbon-neutral over the vehicles’ entire life cycle by 2039.
