AFFALTERBACH/ABU DHABI: Mercedes-AMG unveiled its first limited-run Mythos series model, the PureSpeed, at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.
This exclusive, fully open two-seater performance vehicle, limited to 250 units, pays homage to Mercedes-Benz's motorsport legacy while delivering an extraordinary driving experience.
The PureSpeed’s design blends futuristic aerodynamics with racing heritage. Inspired by the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar, its low-slung silhouette features a shark-nosed front, wide air intakes, and aerodynamic carbon fibre accents.
Transparent deflectors minimise turbulence, while 21-inch forged aluminum wheels optimise airflow. Innovative features like the HALO safety system—derived from Formula 1—replace the traditional A-pillar, ensuring occupant protection and adding to its futuristic aesthetic.
Under the hood, the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine delivers 585PS and 800Nm of torque, accelerating the car from 0 to 100kph in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 315kph.
The AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission ensures swift gear shifts, while the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system guarantees optimal traction and stability. Active aerodynamics, including a rear spoiler and underbody elements, enhance handling and reduce drag.
The lightweight aluminum space frame and carbon fibre components contribute to the PureSpeed’s rigidity and performance. Advanced suspension systems, such as AMG Active Ride Control and active rear-axle steering, ensure agility, stability, and comfort across diverse driving conditions.
A ceramic composite braking system delivers precise deceleration under high loads.
The PureSpeed offers a minimalist yet luxurious cabin with AMG Performance seats featuring exclusive leather upholstery and heated multicontour functionality.
Interior highlights include a custom IWC Schaffhausen clock and a Burmester 3D sound system with 15 speakers. Each car is marked with a "1 of 250" badge, signifying its exclusivity.
Optional motorsport styling packages draw inspiration from historic Mercedes racing victories, with unique colour schemes and designs.
Helmets designed specifically for the PureSpeed include intercom systems for seamless communication at high speeds, and a bespoke weather cover protects the open-top car when parked.
