McLaren shows off 750S Spider with intricate 3-7-59 theme
By CARSIFU | 14 November 2023SAN FRANCISCO: McLaren Automotive has revealed its most intricate and ambitious bespoke livery, called the 3-7-59 Theme.
Created by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the design pays tribute to McLaren's victories at the Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The livery features a collage of illustrations and details from the three races, incorporating over 20 different colours.
It took over 1,200 hours to paint and will be applied to six customer cars, all of which have already been sold. All were either a 750S coupe or Spider.
The reveal took place at the Velocity International luxury motorsports festival in Sonoma Raceway, USA, near here and coincided with McLaren's 60th anniversary celebrations.
The name of the livery, 3-7-59, refers to the race numbers of the victorious McLarens in each of the Triple Crown victories.
The design incorporates elements from the liveries of the winning cars, including the white and red of the McLaren MP4/2 and the grey of the McLaren F1 GTR.
The paintwork also includes hidden "easter eggs" that reference the winning cars, the years of McLaren's victories, and the evolution of McLaren's logo.
In addition to the intricate paintwork, the 3-7-59 Theme includes several hidden and interactive features.
QR codes on the car provide access to a webpage detailing the vehicle.
A reflected "3-7-59" motif shines on the bracket housing the LED running lights, and an electrochromic MSO logo illuminates within the brake light.
The car also features exterior detailing made from silver leaf and Triple Crown logo designs stitched into the headrests and debossed into the center armrest.
The interior of the 3-7-59 Theme includes visual carbon fibre door trim, a painted 12 o'clock marker on the steering wheel rim, and hand-painted extended carbon fiber shift paddles.
The pedals are marked with laser-etched artwork and finished with a ceramic coating and Triple Crown stars. The dedication plaque, found inside the car, features a piece of red and white McLaren Formula 1 car carbon fibre bodywork.
