McLaren Artura Spider debuts — a high-performance hybrid convertible from RM3.4mil

KUALA LUMPUR: McLaren Kuala Lumpur has expanded its line-up with the introduction of the Artura Spider.

The high-performance hybrid convertible is now available to order from RM3.4 million (duties included before options).

The warranty is five years with unlimited mileage and comes with a three-year service plan as well as a five-year unlimited mileage roadside assistance.

The battery gets a six-year or 72,000km coverage while its body gets a 10-year (unlimited mileage) coverage for corrosion resistance.

With a 2,640mm wheelbase, the Spider variant measures in at 4,539mm-long, 2,080mm-wide and 1,193mm-tall.

Regardless, the 1,560kg (kerb) Artura Spider - thanks to its McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), uses a 3.0-litre M630 mid-mounted dry-sump aluminium 120-degree V6 engine that drinks from a 65-litre fuel tank.

The MCLA incorporates aluminium impact structures for the front and rear.

Together with its electric motor (95PS and 225Nm) powertrain, the system output is now rated at 700PS (690hp)and 720Nm of torque.

Power is said to have been recalibrated to include an added 20PS (19.7hp) from the combustion engine from 4,000rpm to its 8,500rpm redline.

This allows the Spider to sprint from 0 to 100kph in 3.0 seconds and onwards to an electronically limited top speed of 330kph.

It is fitted with 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) wheels and uses Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres (235/35 in front and 295/35 at the rear).

The engine calibration will be made available to existing Artura owners - free of charge.

This puts the Spider, with its powered retractable hardtop, at just 62kg heavier than the coupe variant.

The e-motor uses a 7.4kWh lithium-ion battery that weighs 88kg and is locted at the rear of the cabin.

Charging the battery from 0 to 80% takes about 2.5 hours to gain 33km of electric range. The battery is kept cool by a refrigerant.

The eight-speed dual-clutch Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) manages power delivery to the rear wheels.

The Artura's exhaust note will change accordingly depending on the drive mode.

Partially obscured by the wheels are front 390mm and rear 380mm Carbon Ceramic Discs that get abused by the front six-piston and rear four-piston callipers.

The suspension setup uses front independent adaptive dampers with dual aluminium wishbones and rear multi-link with upper wishbones.

A Proactive Damping Control system has been included that includes Comfort, Sport and Track modes.

"The new Artura Spider introduced today brings the very same electrically charged thrills, this time with an open-top flair, making it perfect for those seeking greater exhilaration born from that charged performance mentioned,” said McLaren Kuala Lumpur chief operating officer Ravinder Singh.
