Maserati to satisfy craving for 'hotter' version of MC20 soon

MODENA: Maserati is set to debut its latest super sports car on Aug 16 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, during Monterey Car Week in California.

This event, renowned for its display of high-end vehicles and elite motorsports enthusiasts, runs from Aug 14 to 19.

The new Maserati is an evolution of the MC20, equipped with the powerful V6 Nettuno engine. This model blends the performance of Maserati's GT2 race car with the luxury and functionality of a road vehicle, promising innovative technology and superior aerodynamics.

A teaser image hints at design elements borrowed from the GT2 racer, including carbon fibre flared front wings and new headlights.

The car is expected to feature aerodynamic enhancements such as a swan-neck rear spoiler, front splitter, and revised air intakes, with a significant use of weight-saving carbon fibre.

The car would be propelled by the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine as the regular MC20, delivering 621hp, with possible enhancements similar to those in the MCXtrema, which boosts output to 740hp.

The MCXtrema, introduced at Monterey Car Week 2023, also featured a six-speed sequential racing gearbox, contrasting with the MC20’s eight-speed automatic transmission.

Bespoke options for the new model will be extensive, though specific details remain under wraps. Maserati promises a vehicle that combines the thrill of racing with the comfort and customisation expected in a road car, appealing to enthusiasts who seek both performance and luxury.

Maserati’s chief marketing and communications officer Giovanni Perosino and its design chief Klaus Busse will present the new model.

The Quail event will also showcase the MC20 Icona, a limited edition inspired by the 2004 MC12 Stradale, making its North American debut.

The MCXtrema, the most powerful Maserati approved for track use, will also be on display, with only 62 units produced, the first of which will be delivered during Monterey Car Week.
