Lokatag Pro connected toll reader and dashcam device debuts
By CARSIFU | 23 January 2024SHAH ALAM: The developer of the Lokatag toll reader in 2019 has surfaced with a more advanced product.
Amtel Holdings Bhd today launched the Lokatag Pro, which it said is a connected toll reader and dashcam device.
Lokatag Pro is available for pre-order online at RM1,799, with delivery expected in March. Pre-order customers will also be eligible for free car insurance, subject to terms and conditions.
According to Amtel, Lokatag Pro incorporates patented technologies, making it the first of its kind in the market.
With infra-red technology from Efkon, it supports both traditional and new NFC TNG cards, allowing users to drive through SmartTAG lanes without stopping their vehicles.
Additionally, Lokatag Pro's dashcam feature is touted as being able to record high-quality video footage of the road ahead, providing added safety and security, especially in the event of accidents or other mishaps.
A standout feature of Lokatag Pro is its AI voice prompt feature, which offers real-time updates on card balances and alerts in three languages (Bahasa Melayu, English, and Mandarin), allowing drivers to stay focused on the road.
In addition, Lokatag Pro is equipped with an automotive-grade e-SIM, offering GPS tracking, real-time alerts, cloud remote control, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Its built-in sensors and monitoring system enhance vehicle security by alerting users to suspicious activities and geo-tagging incidents as part of the evidence-collecting process.
At today's launch, Amtel also announced it has partnered with Zurich Malaysia to streamline motor insurance and takaful claims processes for Loka App users. This partnership aims to enhance road safety, convenience, and peace of mind for users while introducing personalised telematics insurance.
Amtel group CEO Chester Koid said the company aims to create a Loka ecosystem through, among others, the Lokatag Pro and targets to have 500,000 users within three years.
“We are proud to partner with Lokatag in enhancing road safety, convenience, and peace of mind for users,” said Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Bhd CEO Shamsul Azman.
Besides the insurance tie-up, Amtel said it has also teamed up with local car ad-tech company Stickiie to "further support Malaysian drivers". The partnership allows drivers to become Lokatag "brand ambassadors" while offering them the chance to own free Lokatag devices and earn additional income.
Amtel said it has been supplying its original Lokatag built-in toll reader to eight car OEM brands to date.
The launch of the Lokatag Pro was held at Evolt Karting, an indoor electric go-kart racing recreation centre here. At the close of the event, guests and members of the media were treated to free go-kart sessions.
Amtel, a listed company, was founded in 1993 initially as a mobile phone distributor but has now become a developer of software applications and hardware accessories for the automotive industry.
Besides Lokatag and Lokatag Pro, Amtel also makes portable power supply systems, emergency jump-start power packs and AC/DC chargers for electric cars.
