Lexus takes a culinary turn with 'The Maverick Academy'

SINGAPORE: Lexus Asia has partnered with AR Asia Production to debut a new culinary competition, "The Maverick Academy", which will premiere on Netflix on Nov 8.

The show, a five-episode series, showcases aspiring chefs from across Asia who will compete through various cooking challenges, testing their culinary skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The partnership marks Lexus' first venture into television programming, aiming to align the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship with the artistry found in high-level culinary pursuits.

Hosted by renowned Canadian chef Alvin Leung, known as "The Demon Chef" and owner of the Michelin-starred Bo Innovation in Hong Kong, the competition will feature eight contestants from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Hong Kong.

The winner will get a chance to work as Leung's apprentice and business partner.

Judges for the show include acclaimed chefs such as Chef Tam, recipient of the 2024 Michelin Guide Young Chef Award in Thailand, and Chef Ton, head chef at Bangkok’s celebrated Le Du restaurant, along with Michael Bonacini, co-founder of Canada’s fine dining group Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants.

Through the series, Lexus plans to integrate its latest car models, blending them into the energetic backdrop of the competition.

The winning chef will also receive limited-time use of a Lexus LBX, adding an automotive twist to the culinary-focused show.

Lexus Asia vice president Preston Tan said "The Maverick Academy" celebrates craftsmanship and excellence, echoing Lexus' dedication to creating exceptional experiences.
