Leapmotor C10 EV previewed ahead of October launch
By JAY WONG | 19 September 2024SUBANG JAYA: Leapmotor Malaysia, under the stewardship of Stellantis Malaysia, has previewed the C10 sports utility vehicle (SUV) ahead of its official launch.
Due to be unveiled in October, the company has yet to reveal the full specifications and estimated price of this all-electric SUV.
What is known thus far, is the C10 has a wheelbase of 2,825mm , length of 4,739mm, width of 1,900mm and height of 1,680mm.
Since only one variant will be offered, it can be assumed that it will be the range-topping Design global variant which sports 20-inch alloys slapped with 245/45 series tyres, as previewed.
Only two global variants are available and this includes the entry-level Style variant which gets fitted with 18-inch wheels for visual differentiation.
If it is the Design variant then it would mean that the C10 bound for Malaysia should come with a liquid-cooled 69.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack instead of the standard 59.9kWh battery.
The battery pack is able to be charged from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes via a DC fast-charger, and it will take just 18 minutes to get up to 200km of additional range.
On a full charge, the C10 claims to have 420km of range while the single electric motor with 218PS will allow an acceleration of 0 to 50kph in 3.9 seconds.
As standard, the C10 comes equipped with automatic LED headlights, rear LED light bar with lighting animation, automatic wipers, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, flush door handles and a powered tailgate.
Inside, the cabin will feature a multi-colour ambient lighting system along with leather seats, dual-zone climate controls, powered front seats with heated and ventilated functionality and a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade.
In addition to a wireless charger and NFC Key, a 10.25-inch HD instrument cluster is included along with a 12-speaker surround sound system powered by a 14.6-inch 2.5k high-resolution touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity.
For safety, seven airbags should make its way inside, including the Leap Pilot Driving Assistance suite of 16 Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
In October last year, Stellantis and Leapmotor formed the Leapmotor International joint-venture where Stellantis held a 51% stake and Leapmotor the remaining 49%.
The battery electric vehicle (BEV) automaker has managed to sell over 400,000 vehicles since July 2024 to become China's top three electric vehicle startup brands in 2023.
Presently, Leapmotor is said to be ready for its introduction in the markets of India and Asia Pacific, with Malaysia pioneering the way forward by being the first to launch the brand as part of its expansion strategy for the region with Thailand and Australia to follow soon.
