Kia Telluride is 2020 World Car of the Year
By CARSIFU | 08 April 2020TORONTO: The Road to the 2020 World Car Awards ended today with the Kia Telluride SUV winning the 2020 World Car of the Year award.
Kia also bagged the World Urban Car with the Soul EV.
The 2019 World Car of the Year was won by the electric Jaguar I-PACE, also an SUV.
There were also subsidiary awards. The Porsche Taycan won the World Performance Car and World Luxury Car awards; the Mazda3 took the World Car Design of the Year; while the Kia Soul EV was the World Urban Car as mentioned earlier.
The awards announcement was made digitally in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vehicles were selected and voted on by an international jury panel comprising 86 prominent automotive journalists from 24 countries around the world. Each juror was appointed by the World Car Steering Committee on the basis of his or her expertise, experience, credibility, and influence. The international accounting firm KPMG tabulated the jurors’ ballots.
“Everyone at Kia is truly honoured to receive not just one, but two awards from the World Car Awards judging panel,” Kia Motors Corporation executive vice-president and product division head Thomas Schemera said in response to the double win.
“This is one of the hardest-fought competitions in the global automotive industry, proving that the Telluride and Soul EV are both truly outstanding vehicles."
