CHENGDU/SEOUL: Kia presented on Friday its all-electric compact SUV, the EV5, at the Chengdu Motor Show in China.
The EV5, targeted at millennial families, will be launched in the latter half of 2023, initially in China, and will unveil further product details at the Kia EV Day – an event dedicated to the brand’s EV lineup and vision. Scheduled for October, Kia will expand upon its global vision for electrification at the event.
The precursor to the EV5, the Concept EV5, was revealed at Kia Chinese EV Day in Shanghai in March.
According to Kia, the EV5 combines transformative design, exceptional versatility, and outstanding comfort to provide modern families with the flexibility they need for their journeys. It competes with the likes of the Tesla Model Y and the all-electric Volvo XC40.
Drawing inspiration from the brand's acclaimed "Opposites United" design philosophy, the EV5 features strong and solid lines, a modern interpretation of the Kia tiger face, and a wide and unique stance.
The EV5's design philosophy, "Bold for Nature," focuses on creating a solid and powerful body complemented by a soft and emotionally resonant surface.
The EV5's confident and dignified nature is reflected in its powerful fenders and wide shoulder lines, creating a solid and unique quarter silhouette.
The pushed-back D-pillars further highlight the SUV's family-friendly practicality, accentuating the spaciousness of the rear seat and trunk while providing a wide field of visibility.
Distinctive Kia design elements, such as the wide nose and solid bonnet, form a sleek digital 'Tiger Face,' eclipsing the traditional grille to convey a clean and powerful impression.
The EV5's interior space is designed to be a modern inspirational cabin design for a new era of sustainable mobility.
Drawing inspiration from the recently launched larger EV9 SUV, the interior design is focused on creating a blend of new spaces and shapes, pursuing a concept of harmony between nature and man-made elements.

Variable mood lighting across the front section of the crash pad and front and rear door trims offers adjustable brightness (0-10) and a total of 64 colour options. The EV5's centre fascia serves as a key design feature, offering class-leading practicality and intuitive occupant interaction.
